FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much are tournaments, and is there a membership fee to join?

Yes, there is a membership fee of $60.00 which is good for the 2009 calendar year.

Tournament fees range from $15 - $75 depending on the Chapter (East, West or Metro), the level of play (Prep, Medalist or Masters Tour), and the series (Spring Break, Summer, Cowboys, or Holiday Series). For more information, review the Member Handbook which can be found under "About the Foundation".

Can my child play in more than one Tour?

Yes, players may play on more than one Tour during the same season. However, it is required that players remain in the same age division at all levels. The different Tours exist so that everyone can find an appropriate level of competition. Keep in mind that the Medalist Tour is open to those ages 12-18, so those 7-11 playing in the Prep Tour cannot play in the Medalist Tour unless they "declare up" and remain in that age division for the rest of the season.

What is the cancellation/transfer policy?

Players may cancel out of a tournament seven (7) days prior to the scheduled event for a partial refund (less $5 processing fee for Prep/Medalist tournaments; $10 for Masters tournaments). Cancellations may be made by logging onto your account and cancelling out of the desired event or calling the NTPGA office. After office hours, dial ext. 6 to reach the cancellation line.

Players may transfer out of an event and into a different event if it is within the cancellation window (at least seven days prior to both the original and new event). Players may only transfer tournaments if they are both in the same tour (ex: cannot transfer from Prep to Medalist event). The processing fee is NOT applied to transferred tournaments. To transfer, please call the NTPGA office at 214-420-7421.

What does it mean to "declare up"?

For example, a player who is 11 years of age is eligible to play in the next older age division so long as he or she notifies the Section office by completing an Age Division Declaration Form. Once a player has "declared up" to an older age division the player must continue to play in that age division for the rest of the Series (Spring Break, Ewing Summer, Cowboys, or Holiday).

Is there a limit in the number of tournaments we can sign up for?

There is NO limit to the number of events you play - each player can play as few as zero or as many as we offer.

Can we pick and choose which events we want to play in?

Yes. But remember that there are Rules & Regulations at each level of play and scoring requirements to participate on the Masters Tour level of play.

Do we have to pick all of our tournaments at once, or can we pick them on a week by week basis?

You can pick tournaments as you see fit, however there is a seven (7) day entry window on all of our non-invitational events. Once that entry window has closed your only option is to walk-up on the morning of the event and pay the tournament entry fee in addition to a $10.00 processing fee on site. Additionally, several of our tournaments fill up very fast, so if you want to make sure that you are registered for the event of your choice we suggest that you sign up online as soon as the entry window opens.

My child is a member of the West Chapter; can he play in an event in the Metro or East Chapter?

Yes. As long as your child is a current member of the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation, they can play in any Chapter on the Junior Tour. So long as the event in which they choose to play has their appropriate age division available.

Can you explain the Player of the Year points distribution to me? My child won an event but only has a small number of points!

Through thoughtful analysis and consideration we have adopted a method that is called the 6/12 divisor. What that means is that for every tournament someone plays between 1-6 we add up the points and divide by 6. For events numbering between 6 and 12 we will divide by the actual number of events played. Once a player reaches 12 tournaments, we will divide their total points by 12, regardless of how many events they play above 12.

6/12 Divisor
1-6 tournaments played: total points divided by 6
             Example:
             5 tournaments played: total points = 300
Player of the Year points: 300/6 = 50

6-12 tournaments played: total points divided by number of tournaments
             Example:
             8 tournaments played: total points = 600
Player of the Year points: 600/8 = 75

12+ tournaments played: total points divided by 12
            Example:
            15 tournaments played: total points = 900
Player of the Year points: 900/12 = 75

Due to the small number of events offered on the East Chapter schedule and the Ewing Autohaus Mercedes-Benz Masters Tour we will use a 4/8 divisor for the Player of the Year (1-4 tournaments: divide by 4; 4-8 tournaments: divide by number of tournaments; 8+ tournaments: divide by 8)
