Internship Opportunity

The PGA of America is the largest working sports organization in the world with over 28,000 members and apprentices throughout the country. Formed in 1916, the purpose of the PGA is to promote the enjoyment of and involvement in the game of golf, and to contribute to its growth by providing services to the golf professional and golf industry.
In addition to managing the day-to-day affairs of the Northern Texas PGA Section, the north Dallas based headquarters operates the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation. The Foundation is the largest of its kind in the country with more than 2,700 members and over 200 tournaments conducted annually. The Northern Texas PGA is seeking qualified applicants for a 13-week field internship position in tournament operations from May 27 – August 18, 2009. Start and finish dates are somewhat flexible according to the successful applicants’ school schedules.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal, written communication and customer service skills.
- Enjoy working with children and young adults aged 7-18.
- Organized, energetic, self-starter, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Innovative and creative.
- Ability to adapt positively and professionally in a variety of situations.
- Working knowledge of the game of golf preferred.
- College degree (or working towards a degree) preferred.
- Willingness and ability (automobile access) to travel within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex required.
- Interest in a career in golf administration and/or tournament operations is preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day-to-day activities and management of the Foundation’s summer tournament program including on-site responsibilities such as registration, starting, rules officiating, scoring and awards presentations.
- Reconcile financial and result summaries.
- Effectively communicate with parents, juniors and host professional staff.
- Research, plan and implement various new programs and initiatives.
- Provide in-office support of the Foundation tournament program.
